Hello and welcome to May’s art activity, arriving in…June! This took me a bit longer to make, so I ran out of May with it (sorry 😅) In this activity we’ll be drawing the negative space around imaginary objects, and transforming an old artwork into a new composition.
If you are a new Studio Notebook subscriber and are curious about these monthly art activities, the orange button below will lead you to the subscription options, and you can also check out the free Recipe for Drawing tutorial. Also: I often try these tutorials out with my 8 yr old; this month’s activity especially is a fun project for kids!
I’ve made a little draw-along video, but have also described the steps below with accompanying photos.
Materials:
An old drawing, painting, collage, or found image that you don’t mind reworking/drawing over/painting over
Wax, oil, or chalk pastels; or India ink, or a dark felt pen
